Union County stretches from Elizabeth and the dense cities along the Arthur Kill to the hilltop homes of Summit and the Watchung foothills. Its roofs reflect that: flat membrane roofs on Elizabeth's two- and three-families and port-area warehouses, asphalt shingles on the post-war capes and splits of Union Township and Cranford, and steep slate or shingle roofs on the large older homes of Westfield and Summit.
Asset Roofing & Chimney provides roof repair, roof replacement and chimney repair throughout Union County for homes and commercial buildings. We are a licensed and insured shingle and flat roofing contractor based in Cliffside Park in Bergen County, serving North New Jersey, with chimney masonry, liners, caps, crowns and flashing as a core part of the business. Estimates are free.
The town pages below cover the Union County municipalities we have written specific guidance for. We serve every municipality in the county; if your town is not listed, call (201) 727-3113 and we will talk through your roof or chimney directly.
Roofing in Union County
Union County's older towns, including Westfield, Summit, Cranford and parts of Elizabeth, have pre-war homes on their third or fourth roof, often with multiple layers over plank decking and flashing that has been caulked instead of replaced. The post-war townships, including Union, Clark and Kenilworth, have capes, ranches and splits with shallow sections, rear dormers and additions that leak at the junctions.
Flat roofing is a large part of the work in Union County. Elizabeth's multifamily buildings and port-area industrial roofs, the Route 22 commercial corridor through Union Township and the downtown blocks of Westfield, Cranford and Summit all depend on membrane roofs that fail at seams, drains, parapets and penetrations. We repair and replace both shingle and flat systems and detail the transitions where a building has both.
Chimney work in Union County
Westfield and Summit have tall multi-flue chimneys on large older homes with several fireplaces; Cranford, Union Township and Elizabeth have simpler stacks built for coal and oil furnaces. Nearly all now vent gas appliances through oversized clay flues, which causes condensation damage inside, while freeze-thaw cracks crowns and opens joints outside. Summit's hilltop exposure accelerates spalling on the weather face.
We inspect, repoint, rebuild, reline, cap, crown, flash, waterproof and clean chimneys across the county, including the shared stacks on Elizabeth's multifamily buildings and chimneys that pass through flat roofs. In Cranford's flood-prone sections, chimney bases that have been saturated deserve a check. Every inspection comes with photos and a written scope.
