What to do before we arrive

  1. Move furniture, electronics and valuables away from the wet area and put a bucket or tarp under the drip.
  2. If the ceiling is bulging with water, poke a small hole with a screwdriver to drain it into a bucket before it collapses.
  3. Do not go on the roof. Wet shingles and loose debris are how people get hurt. Photos from the ground or a window are enough.
  4. Photograph the damage inside and out, and note the date. This helps if you file an insurance claim.
  5. Call (201) 727-3113. Tell us where the water is showing and what the roof looked like before.

We schedule leak and storm calls as quickly as our crews allow during business hours (Mon – Sat: 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM). We will give you an honest time frame when you call.

If water is actively dripping through a ceiling, the first few minutes matter more than the roof itself. Move furniture, rugs, and electronics out from under the leak and put a bucket or bin down. If the ceiling is bulging with water, poke a small hole at the lowest point with a screwdriver so it drains in one place instead of spreading across the drywall. Take photos as you go; you will want them later.

Do not go onto the roof. A wet shingle roof in the rain, or a flat roof with standing water, is genuinely dangerous, and whatever is leaking will still be there when the weather clears. Call us instead. We will ask where the water is showing up, what the weather did, and what kind of roof you have, so the crew arrives with the right materials for the job.

Common Problems

Signs you may need emergency roof repair

Wind-Torn Shingles

A nor'easter or a summer thunderstorm with straight-line wind can peel back a section of shingles in minutes. Once the underlayment is exposed, the next band of rain goes straight through the nail holes and into the attic.

A Branch Through the Roof

Falling limbs punch through shingles and decking together. The hole is often smaller than it looks from inside, but splintered plywood around it means the repair involves framing and decking, not just roofing. Keep everyone out of the room below until it is checked.

Ice Dams Backing Up Water

During a freeze-thaw stretch, melting snow refreezes at the cold eaves and forms a ridge of ice. Water pools behind it and works up under the shingles. The leak appears along exterior walls and usually stops once temperatures drop again, which fools people into ignoring it.

Clogged Drains on a Flat Roof

When a flat roof drain or scupper plugs with leaves, the roof becomes a shallow pool. Water rises above the flashing height and comes in at walls, curbs, and seams. Clearing the drain is step one; checking what the water got into is step two.

Flashing Failure at the Chimney

Heavy, wind-driven rain is what finally exposes aging chimney flashing. Water runs down the chimney face, past loose counter-flashing, and into the ceiling around the fireplace. It can look like a roof leak, a chimney leak, or both.

Blown-Off Vents and Caps

Plumbing vent caps, attic fan covers, and turbine vents are small parts with a big job. When wind takes one, you have an open pipe straight into the house. These are often quick to fix once we are on site.

Our Process

How emergency roof repair works with Asset

  1. 01

    Protect the Interior

Move belongings, catch the water, relieve a bulging ceiling, and photograph everything. Shut off power to the affected room if water is near fixtures or outlets.

  2. 02

    Call and Describe the Problem

Call (201) 727-3113 and tell us where the water is coming in, what the roof is made of, and what happened. The more we know, the better prepared the crew is on arrival.

  3. 03

    We Stop the Water

On site, we find the entry point and make the repair if the roof can be worked safely. If not, we protect the opening where appropriate and return for the permanent repair.

  4. 04

    Permanent Repair and Follow-Up

Once the weather allows, we complete the full repair, document it with photos, and flag anything else we noticed so you are not surprised by the next storm.

FAQ

Emergency Roof Repair questions, answered

Are you available 24 hours a day?

Our office hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 AM to 8 PM, and that is when we answer calls and dispatch crews. Call during those hours and we will fit urgent leaks into the schedule as quickly as our workload and the weather allow. If you reach us outside those hours, leave a message or submit the form and we will follow up when the office opens.

Should I put a tarp on the roof myself?

We strongly advise against it. Falls from wet roofs cause serious injuries every year, and a tarp fastened wrong can let more water in or blow off and cause more damage. Focus on the inside: contain the water, protect your belongings, and photograph the damage. Leave the roof to people with the equipment to be on it safely.

Will homeowners insurance cover an emergency roof repair?

It depends on the cause. Sudden events such as wind damage, a fallen tree, or hail are commonly covered; gradual wear, neglected maintenance, and age usually are not. Photograph the damage inside and out before anything is cleaned up, keep receipts, and call your insurer promptly. We can help document the damage so your claim reflects what actually happened.

What does an emergency roof repair cost?

That depends on what failed and how much got wet. A blown-off vent cap is a small job; a branch through the decking involves framing, plywood, underlayment, and shingles. Access, roof pitch, and whether a permanent repair is possible on the first visit also factor in. We explain the scope and provide a written estimate before doing the permanent work.

Can you fix it permanently on the first visit?

Often, but not always. If the roof is dry enough to work safely and the damage is contained, we complete the repair on the spot. In active rain, on ice, or when decking has to be replaced, we protect the opening where appropriate and return for the permanent repair once conditions allow. We will tell you which situation you are in.

The leak stopped when the rain stopped. Do I still need to call?

Yes. The opening is still there, and the water that came in is now sitting in insulation and drywall. The next storm will bring it back, often worse, because wet materials deteriorate between events. A leak that only appears in certain wind directions or heavy rain is one of the hardest kinds to find later, so have it traced while the evidence is fresh.
