The housing itself has a consistent set of weak points. Multi-gable colonials have several valleys that wear through, attached garages create long sidewall flashing runs, and cracked pipe boots and nail pops are routine. Older farmhouses add their own issues: plank decking, old flashing and additions with low-slope roofs. Asset Roofing & Chimney repairs all of these and documents storm damage for insurance claims when a storm has caused it.
Repair or replace? What we tell Hillsborough homeowners
After a windstorm we replace the lifted and missing shingles, hand-seal the surrounding tabs, reset or replace ridge caps and check the ridge vent fastening. If the damage is widespread, we photograph and document it for an insurance claim. If the shingles across the roof have lost their seal and are lifting in ordinary wind, we will tell you that repair is a short-term measure and discuss replacement timing.
For older farmhouses we approach repairs as we would any older home: trace the leak from inside, inspect every flashing detail above it and repair with properly integrated materials rather than surface sealant. Low-slope additions should be converted to membrane if they were shingled.
