Roofing and chimney work in Lyndhurst
Lyndhurst is a township of two very different halves. The western side, rising from the Passaic River, is a dense residential grid of single-family and two-family homes, much of it built in the first half of the twentieth century, with Ridge Road and Stuyvesant Avenue carrying the shops. The eastern side runs out into the Meadowlands, where office buildings, warehouses and light industry sit on land beside the marshes. The roofs follow that split: pitched shingle roofs and small flat roofs on the houses, and large low-slope roofs in the commercial district.
Asset Roofing & Chimney is based in Cliffside Park, on the other side of the Meadowlands, and serves Lyndhurst for both residential and commercial work. We repair and replace asphalt shingle and flat roofs, handle the brick chimneys that most of the older houses still have, and give a free written estimate after every inspection.
Housing in Lyndhurst
Western Lyndhurst is built up with closely spaced single-family and two-family homes, a large share dating from the early 1900s through the 1950s. Most are frame houses with pitched asphalt shingle roofs, front porches, rear additions and brick chimneys, mixed with some later infill and small apartment buildings. Commercial and mixed-use buildings line Ridge Road and Stuyvesant Avenue, and the Meadowlands portion of the township holds office, warehouse and light-industrial buildings with large flat roofs.
Weather and exposure
Lyndhurst sits between the Passaic River on the west and the open Meadowlands on the east. The marshland does little to slow wind coming across from the east, so commercial roofs on the Meadowlands side and houses on higher ground near Ridge Road see more gusts than sheltered inland blocks. Low-lying areas near the river and the marshes deal with flooding and persistent dampness, and that humid air, combined with winter freeze-thaw, works steadily on older masonry.
