Roofing and chimney work in Edgewater
Edgewater is a narrow borough squeezed between the Hudson River and the foot of the Palisades cliffs. Its waterfront, once largely industrial, has been redeveloped over recent decades with condominium and apartment buildings, townhouse communities and shopping centers, while older single-family and two-family homes remain on the streets climbing toward the cliff. Few towns in the county have this much new construction alongside this much river exposure.
Asset Roofing & Chimney is based just up the cliff in Cliffside Park, next door to Edgewater. We repair and replace flat and low-slope roofs on townhouses, multifamily and commercial buildings, shingle roofs on homes, and provide full chimney service, including the factory-built fireplace chases common in newer townhouses. We are licensed and insured, and estimates are free.
Housing in Edgewater
Edgewater has a mix unusual for Bergen County. Along the river, much of the housing is newer: mid-rise and high-rise condominium and apartment buildings and townhouse communities, many with flat roofs, roof decks and framed fireplace chases. On the slope below the Palisades, older single-family and two-family homes from the first half of the twentieth century sit on small lots. Retail and commercial buildings with large flat roofs line the riverfront corridor.
Weather and exposure
Edgewater faces the Hudson directly, so wind, wind-driven rain and moist river air reach its buildings with nothing in between. Gusts during nor'easters and summer storms stress roof edges, rooftop equipment and caps, and the damp air speeds corrosion of exposed metal flashing, fasteners and chase covers. Low-lying blocks along the river are subject to storm flooding, while homes on the slope deal with runoff from the cliff above.
